Ken
Quinby Candidate for Multnomah County Commissioner
|
I recently filed for the office of Multnomah County Commissioner
(district #4). Although this is a step upward, I’ve been
a political leader on the Fairview City Council for 8 of the
last 10 years. I’ve been in the trenches, making tough
decisions and speaking out boldly for the right cause, time
and time again.
My main focus points are the same as the majority of all citizens.
Public safety is always #1! Citizens at both far ends of the
county feel neglected and vulnerable. As gun owners, we realize
that the safety of ourselves and our families ultimately rests
with us, not a phone call to 911.
The county faces budget challenges in every arena, especially
in transportation and bridge repairs. As the economy struggles
from a weakened dollar and the sub-prime mortgage problem, the
county must scrutinize every tax dollar spent!
As you can imagine, this is no place for political beginners
yet my opponents are just that. Neither have held elected office
or been forced to make tough decisions affecting citizens and
their tax dollars.
My 8 years of political experience is extensive, so I’d
like to direct you to my website
to read about it. I also have an "issues" page and
I make changes & improvements to the site frequently.
I have lived in east Portland and Fairview since 1972. I have
a professional background in Industrial and mobile hydraulics.
I also have a background in nutrition & health, specifically
in spinal care & the digestive system. I am currently in
property management & maintenance.
I am honored to have 2 sons and a daughter in-law that I am
extremely proud of. One is a reserve police officer in a Portland
suburb and co-owner with his wife of a private security company.
His company works closely with the Portland Police and the Multnomah
County Sheriffs office as well as the Bureau of Emergency Communications.
My other son is a United States Marine Corp Captain. He just
finished a tour piloting a twin engine F/A-18 Hornet fighter
jet and is now assigned to intelligence.
My most important message to you is that I am a very vocal proponent
of not just the entire constitution, but most importantly the
2nd amendment. It assists in making sure we keep the rest. I
believe in the 3 "G's", God, guns & guts! The
right of self defense comes from God, far above that of the
constitution. No matter how many unconstitutional laws the federal
government passes, our authority for self defense comes from
a higher power. In fact, it's our duty to protect innocent life.
I could go on and on with a long list of "bumper sticker"
statements that you've all seen, but it would be preaching to
the choir.
I previously held a concealed handgun permit in Clackamas County
for a brief while when I lived there, but have held a Multnomah
County concealed Carry permit since1996. I am the holder of
BATF transfer stamps for 2 full auto's and a silencer. Additionally,
I have an interesting collection of nice toys that are all black.
I'm sure you understand.
About 9 years ago, I was wheeling a hand truck stacked with
cases of ammo out of a gun show & ran directly into a high
ranking police official from east county. I had recently become
a member of the city council & wondered what was going through
this person's mind as he stopped & eyed my completely full
hand truck up & down. As I stood frozen and horrified, he
shook his finger at me & stated: "You know...... one
can never have too much ammo". Ultimately, that was the
man who signed my applications for full autos when former sheriff
Dan Noelle refused to.
