Applications are available at the Sheriff's office. You must be a resident for at least six months. No appointment is needed to turn the application in. They do a criminal background check and a mental health check. References are required for a renewal. They would not mail an application because, "You must be a resident of the County for six months before you pick-up an application."."

Updated 4/17/2003 In a conversation we had with a staffer in this office, we pointed out that the law has no requirement for six months of residency. First she said it did, then she looked at the law and changed her mind and said the sheriff “had discretion.” When we pointed out that that was wrong too, she agreed that there was no six month requirement.
